| What
I've learned through having Parkinson's and doing my work and not telling
people about it is that whatever I'm perceived to be doing, I'm doing
something else. I'm managing a physical situation. It taught me great
discipline and an awareness of what I can expect from myself. --GQ Interview, November 1999 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Audience Member to Michael J. Fox: What do you feel is the secret to your success? Michael J. Fox: (pauses)...Vitamins? --The Phil Donahue Show, 1980s ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pain is temporary. Film is forever. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- My attitude is that this person paid my rent, that one bought the car, that one paid for the hockey tickets. --Michael J. Fox on His Fans, 1980s ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You know what I want? The answer is, I truly don't know what I want. I don't want to do a television series. I want to do dramas as well as comedies, but I have no idea what kind or in what order. Just give me the chance at them. Give me the chance to be someone new occasionally. Alex Keaton, the Boy Prince - well, he can't stay with people forever. I'm sorry. He's grown up, he's gone, he's on his way to...whatever. --"Michael J. Fox on His Hollywood Ups and Downs" by Michael Leahy, TV Guide, June 22, 1991 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I had all the usual ambition growing up. I wanted to be a writer, a musician, a hockey player. I wanted to do something that wasn't 9 - 5. Acting was the first thing I tried that clicked. --"Fox Riding Crest to Popularity" by Los Angeles Associated Press, Port Arthur News, September 20, 1985 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- There's nothing like directing for a control freak, but on the other hand, as Bob Zemeckis says, it's like being nibbled to death by ducks...I thought about people who made independent films and documentaries who spend 15 years trying to get a directing deal and here I am, with this guy calling me. But then I told myself, 'Don't waste any time being guilty. If you feel a challenge, do it!' The only thing worse than an opportunity you don't deserve, is blowing an opportunity. --"Michael J. Fox: The Future Is Now" by Don Yakir, Cabletime, April 1987 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I was just saying, 'Yes, I'm free; let's fit it in and do it,' without considering whether the script was any good, or the thing had a chance to be successful. I guess I wanted to use the time to make as many movies as I could before they pulled the plug on me, because I felt it'd happen then. Face it, this town is a lottery system for actors. One year, you're it, and the next you're gone. I thought, 'Let's do some weird films before it all ends. Maybe they'll think I'm complicated and interesting because of it.' So, I'd sign the contracts and be there and then I'd have to do something that wasn't ready or right sometimes. --"Michael J. Fox on His Hollywood Ups and Down" by Michael Leahy, TV Guide June 22, 1991 |

| I
don't see any reason why he need by confined to that cherubic image. He's
a likable actor, but he doesn't have to be so clean scrubbed. --Paul Schrader; "The Hottest Kid in Hollywood" by Mark Morrissey, US Magazine January 27, 1986 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fox uses his friendly, unthreatening charms to transcend his essentially bumbling behavior and everyday-average self into something special, something that infiltrates the heart of his audience. --"Michael J. Fox: The Future is Now" by Don Yakir, Cabletime, April 1987 |

| --I'm
glad Nick and I are so compatible. It's like we have one mind, you know?
Like we share one brain. --Who's using it tonight? Mallory Keaton (Justine Bateman) and Alex P. Keaton (Michael J. Fox); "Family Ties" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- What does that mean; never say no to a sailor? The 'What Does That Mean?' Guy (Michael J. Fox); Your Studio and You ---------------------------------------------------------------------- --What's your hurry, Murray? --Yeah, where are you going, Murray...uh, Stuart...what's his name? Lucky (voice: Jim Doughan) and Red (voice: David Alan Grier); Stuart Little ---------------------------------------------------------------------- --Curt, are you still a virgin? --Me? I got kids --My parents wanted kids. Chucky (Michael Zorek), Dirty Curt (Jonathan Gries) & Archie (Crispin Glover); High School U.S.A. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brave guys don't rat...ever. Timmy Mezzy (Cary Guffey); Poison Ivy -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are three rules I live by: never get less than 12 hours sleep, never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city, and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now, you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese. Coach Finstock (Jay Tarses); Teen Wolf -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It doesn't matter how you play the game, it's whether you win or lose. And even that doesn't make all that much difference. Coach Finstock (Jay Tarses); Teen Wolf -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I DON'T WANT YOU INSIDE MY SKIN, YOU UNDERSTAND? It's private! What's in there belongs to me! You're not gonna learn what it means to be a cop by eating hot dogs and picking your teeth and asking stupid questions. We live this job. It's something we are, not something we do! Every time a cop walks up to a car and has to give a speeding ticket, he knows he may have to kill someone or be killed himself. That's not something you step into by strapping on a rubber gun and riding around all day. You get to go back to your million dollar beach house and your bimbos and your blow jobs and you get 17 takes to get it right. We get one take. It lasts our whole lives. We mess it up and we're dead. Detective John Moss (James Woods); The Hard Way -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shadow was faithful. Shadow was loyal. Shadow was a chump. Chance (voice: Michael J. Fox); Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --I'll get food by pretending I don't want food. --That's stupid. --I'll prove it! --Oh, you don't have to prove it. I believe you're stupid. Sassy (voice: Sally Field) and Chance (voice: Michael J. Fox); Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, go hawk up a hairball. Chance (voice: Michael J. Fox); Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's built in. Has been ever since the dawn of time when a few wild dogs took it upon themselves to watch over man; to bark when he's in danger; play with him when he's happy; nuzzle him when he's lonely. That's why they call us man's best friend. Shadow (voice: Don Ameche); Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Chance, you're a genius! --I am not!!...What's a genius? Shadow (voice: Don Ameche) and Chance (voice: Michael J. Fox); Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was Shadow's victory, really. His belief was the thing that got us through. And in that moment I saw the years lift from him. He was a puppy again, reunited with his best friend. As we turned to go inside the house, a strange new feeling came over me. I had a family. And I had found out that sacrifice and friendship and even love were more than just the mushy stuff. At last, for the first time in my life-I was home......Turkey!!!! Chance (voice: Michael J. Fox); Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms; then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free. President Andrew Shepherd (Michael Douglas); The American President -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil who is standing center stage advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. President Andrew Shepherd (Michael Douglas); The American President -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Mr. Mayor, would you consider marching in the Gay Pride Parade this week? --What are you, drunk? Media Interviewer and Mayor Winston (Barry Bostwick); "Spin City" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My grandmother thought that a homosexual was a person who slept with one person their whole life. We were gonna let it slide but she kept telling the mailman she was a homosexual. Deputy Mayor Mike Flaherty (Michael J. Fox); "Spin City" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --I remember the first time I was mugged. It was by a woman. She came up to me, made small talk, put her hand in my pocket and made off with my wallet. --That's horrible! --I've paid more to get less. Stuart (Alan Ruck) and James (Alexander Chaplin); "Spin City" |
