I tottaly agree, I wish to have many kind of carachters.
Maybe these writers are just not creative enough so they can give him a real piece.

Honestly I think it's as what was said by Denis Leary, that he IS totally selfless. I've been reading about him today (was in a discussion with my fiance who thought that he was the second 'spin city' and I corrected him ^^). I'm not a major Fox follower, but I've always liked him, he's a great guy and it really plays out on the screen. For those who haven't, read his IMDB bio and Wikipedia.

I think, that like 'information' on Parkinson's that was always given after an episode of Spin City, he just really became a lot more aware of what is out there in the world. And those of Hollywood (the ones not just doing it for publicity or "look at the good things I'm doing, love me!) lol, those who are truly caring about the world, they attempt to inform the world about important things that we should remember. I think that his 'sick people roles' are because he knows that there may be some who do watch, and perhaps it'll give a more 'honest' view of those diseases, and make people more aware.

I also think it allows him to act without having to try to act completely as if he's not dealing with the diseases... If he's not dealing with the actual PD itself, he overmedicates himself (read wikipedia) so that it doesn't become so apparent...but it does lead to the nervous energy and difficulty of speech that is hard to hide. 'Healthy' characters would make it difficult to sustain the 'lack' of the symptoms.

Sorry to rattle on ^^ I think that Micheal J Fox really deserve many kudos, not just as an actor, but as a 'fellow human'. Sure he makes a lot of money, but when has that ever been a crime? ^^ He's been married for 20 years now, 4 children...both a difficult thing both for Hollywood, and long marriages are rare these days as it is. Obviously something wonderful brews inside that boy :)

Or could it be that the writers write the characters as "sick" people and then when it comes around to casting, Michael comes to mind. I don't think he's searching out roles of sick people.

I am aHUGE fan of Michael J. Fox's. I always said the same thing. Ever sice Michael came out that he's sick, all of a sudden his characters are sick. Mike Flaherty was almost diagnosed with prostate cancer, Kevin Casey-OCD, Daniel-Lung Cancer, now he'll be in a wheelchair. But either way, I'm so excited that he's healthy enough to return to tv. I Love you Michael.
